Texas Hunters
Just a reminder that the Texas Parks and Wildlife Division holds a yearly drawing for permits to hunt on specified public lands. The adult application fee is $3 (except for Private Lands hunts and guided hunt packages that have a $10 adult application fee). Permit fees are never more than $130. The booklet contains program rules and regulations, hunt categories and schedules, hunt area descriptions, procedures for applying, Regular Permit Hunts and application cards. The hunt area descriptions include the number of applications received, the number of permits granted and the hunter success rate. Those statistics show that bow hunters and crossbow hunters have an almost one to one application to issued permits ratio and a higher success rate.

Crossbow hunting is more restricted state by state than
bow hunting. Some states ban crossbows completely. Others allow
crossbows only during bow hunting or black powder season. Check our links to your state's crossbow and bow hunting regulations.
One great advantage to crossbows is that a crossbow allows
handicapped or limited strength bow hunters to enjoy the sport. Crossbow hunting requires the patience, stealth and knowledge of
conventional bow hunters.
Crossbow accessories have improved. Crossbows come equipped with a peep sight and can be fitted with a 3-7X crossbow scope or Red Dot Crossbow Scopes. All crossbow models can be made fire ready with a rope aid but most crossbows can use a mechanical cranking mechanism.
